Hugmar Toolkit for IT and business processes on IBM i

Hugmar Toolkit is a state-of-the-art application development and run-time platform, designed to extend and modernize IBM i business systems without replacing them. It enables re-engineering of business processes and the creation of production-grade web and mobile applications that interact and co-exist with existing RPG, CL, and DB2 assets. The Toolkit is developed by Throstur Gudmundsson.

The UI uses NodeJS-Mapepire and has stateless REST API layer for development/testing and a full stateful SPA shell for production UI — both running natively on IBM i and/or hybrid cloud as Docker containers on Linux.

Has a designer that generates fully free ILE to Web source from customizable templates.

The instantly available programs use SQL Call Level Interface that execute dynamic SQL.

The Java library Apache POI running natively on the IBM i is used to read and write to Excel.

REST services are accessed via scripts such as JavaScript and Python-3.

IBM-API wrappers are used to access common IBM i system functions. IBM i Services are emerging as an alternative.

Uses Open-Source and does not use paid third party software.

Uses the best IDE tools available for the IBM i and works seamlessly with IBM-RDI and VS-Code.

Migrates source code from Source Files to IFS.

Built a production REST API bridge connecting IBM i to modern web and mobile clients via Node.js and Mapepire, deployable natively on IBM i or as a Docker container on Linux — eliminating legacy ODBC dependency.
Engineered a modern SPA shell that renders live production screens — including sortable/filterable grids, inline cell editing, context menus, Excel export, and multi-desk sessions.

Enhanced Hugmar to use .NET touchscreen systems and Dojo web clients.
Configured drill-down schemas and class structures to support business-specific data access requirements and management reporting hierarchies, using SQL-based queries, including graphical presentations for leadership meetings.
